Thanks to members' suggestions, I've found the "Corvette Magazine" tech tips on removing the dash on my '84. Seems fairly straightforward, but since I've never done this before, I'd sure appreciate any suggestions anyone has. Can you give me some DOs and DON'Ts?? TIA!

Go really slow and be careful not to drop any of the screws (especially the top ones on the dash). On they fall down in front of the windshield it's doubtful you'll ever see them again... though you may hear them :lol:
When you put it all back on, don't put the screws in too tight... that well aged plastic will break if you apply too much pressure.
OK, being a newbie, I screwed up. I meant to say I am removing just the instrument cluster, not the entire dash. I'm sending the cluster off to be rebuilt, and I want to be careful not to damage it....or anything else...when I pull it out. Any tips or suggestions on removing the instrument cluster?

Be careful removing the connectors from the cluster. I got in a hurry and broke one of the retainers. Also, use a flat screwdriver to help coax these connectors out of the cluster by inserting the blade between the connector and the cluster and turning it, gently prying each side out a little at a time. If you pull on the wires to remove it you can damage the connector.
When reinstalling the cluster, you will find it is impossible to insert the 8mm screws into the bottom holes without them falling out of the nut driver. Use a small peice of masking tape to hold the screws in the driver so you can get them into the hole.
You can either drop the coloum a tiny bit ...or you can gently push up on the dash to get it out...WHat is the problem with your dash...maybe you can save yourself a few hundred and fix it yourself...
