Comming soon to a theater near you,
" The moonshine that ate my fuel system"
85%, that would be 170 Proof, Now we are talkin.
Some wiz kids are gonna figure out how to drink the stuff safely. Next we will all get carded when we buy fuel.
The little bit I've heard about the stuff really interests me. 100+ octane rating. 85 % of it is made from a renewable resource. Ethanol isn't as corrosive as methanol. There are some racers that are already playing with it and seeing gains over 100% gasoline from the oxygen content of it.
Ford has vehicles out there that are ready to use it. The little article that I read in Hot Rod said that they've got it for sale at the pump in some areas of the upper midwest. Cheaper than regular gas also.
Ethanol has a stoichometric ratio of about 9:1 so it falls between gas and methanol.
The stuff looks good to me. It would take changes in the fuel system because of the corrosive nature of it. I could live with it.
You'll need to find room for an 80 gallon tank. I think there's only about 1/4 (don't quote me on that, but it is a lot less) the energy in alcohol that there is in gasoline.
I watched a special on alternative fuel vehicles on the speed channel last night, and they said it got lower gasmileage, but i seriously doubt it's that low. i think they said something like 70% or so.
