Re: Ride after installing polyeurethane bushings (AquaMetallic94LT1)
I put them into my C3 and also put them in my C4.
I like them. IMO the ride is not harsher but more precise. The fact that poly bushings last years longer without degrading than rubber appeals to me too. When diagnosing something I know that it cannot be caused by the bushings as they should be ok for the next 20 years or more. :D
But, if you do not do fast driving in curvy roads or tracks and do not plan to keep your car for years you do not need them. Rubber is cheaper and marginally more comfortable for easy street driving - especially if roads are bad in your neighborhood.
Re: Ride after installing polyeurethane bushings (AquaMetallic94LT1)
I just finished putting them everywhere - not a piece of rubber in sight.
Somebody said it best "not harsh but accurate".
People had told me "it'll ride like a truck" but I can now said thats BS.
There's absolutely no binding with the poly which allows the suspension to travel freely like it should not getting hung up on the friction of the rubber components.
Re: Ride after installing polyeurethane bushings (AquaMetallic94LT1)
No harsher than before, but made a world of difference. On recommendation of the shop that installed them, we used stock rubber bushings on the anti-sway bars where they mount to the frame. These won't change the suspension geometry as they move and will not transmit as much shock to the frame.
Re: Ride after installing polyeurethane bushings (BobMachus)
I recommend them everywhere except the 4 rear trailing arms. I never could get these to stop squeaking, even after using that sticky nasty grease that is supposed to work the best and trying various amounts of torque on the fasteners. The squeaking occurred where the trailing arm connects to the body, which is really close to your ears. I bought the GM rubber ones (unfortunately you have to buy the whole trailing arm) but it did solve the problem. I have Energy suspension's poly bushings in the upper and lower front control arms as well as on the sway bars. After a year of use I have not had a problem with any of these, though. I wouldn't recommend putting them on the carrier ends, that would transmit road vibration directly into the car.
