Default auto to manual

I have a 1990 c4 that has a sweet motor pushing 400+ hp to the rear wheels. The setback is it has the auto in it. Don't get me wrong its not slow by any means, but when you do highway rollons its terrible. What I am wondering is. Has anyone ever swapped a auto to a manual? If so what do I need to do? I would like to drop a 6 speed in. Any info would be appreaciated.

If you just redo your auto you might be better off and cheaper in the long run .........there are parts to build that auto to any form you would want :seeya

A friend of mine converted his auto firebird to a T-56. Other than the tranny being a ZF-6, most of the required parts should be the same. You just buy the corvette version of. Let me shoot him an e-mail.

There a several threads on this subject in the archives. It is the consenus that you'd be better off just buying a stick rather than doing a swap. The big problem seems to be the trans. tunnel in the auto. cars isn't the same size as the ones with a stick. Therefore you wind up cutting out your tunnel and installing one from a stick car.

That can't be right. The auto is much larger than the ZF-6. Now if you were installing a T-56 maybe.

In any case, 1990 zz4350, you should have an IM.

Plemons,
I think it has something to do with the shifter mechanism location. They are not in the same locations on a stick vs. auto. I thought of doing the swap myself about a year ago but after reading the infomation from the other members, I decided it was to much hassle. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself.

ittlfly is correct. it only has to do with the shifter mounting location. on an auto car the location is sort of sumped when looking from inside the car. the auto shifter is then bolted to the Tunnel over the sump. With the 6spd. there is no sump. and it is a square type hole, so you need the shifter area cut out of a stick car for the auto car.
