Will stock 2001 C5 wheels fit on a C4 ?
C5 sizes are 17x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear
Your car is an '88? You're 8 1/2 X 4 now? C5 wagon wheels? If yes to all the fronts 17's will be fine and the rears will fill out the wheel-house a good bit more.
I am also guessing that you have an '88 based on the wheels in your picture.
The C5 wheels will fit the '88 to '96 C4's. All of the C5 wheels have the same sizes and offsets (except for Z06--Those will fit too.) and will fit fine. The C5 rear wheels have a little more offset and will be slightly inboard, but will fit. Some people use an adapter to move them outboard some.
Your 88 base wheels
16"x 8.5"- 50mm
C5 base
17"x 8.5"- 56mm
18"x 9.5"- 65mm
C5 Z06
17"x 9.5"- 54mm
18"x 10.5"- 58mm
These were '99 "wagon wheels" on my '94. I did not use any adapters. The '01-'04 thinspokes have the same sizes and offsets.
These were Z06 replica wheels with the C5 Z06 sizes and offsets on my '96. I did not use any adapters.
My experience: I have C5 Magnesium 18x9.5 rear and opted for a 285 width and I am lowered 2" and needed the a 1/4" spacer for rear because of rubbing with frame and suspension flex. A 275 tire may work without if your not lowered. Love the look of the offset wheels once I got the suspension setting correct and tuned properly. I didn't care for it with stock suspension height it looked like a high school kids 70's Camaro with air shocks and it upset the handling. She took a bit to dial in but rooks now and couldn't be happier.

The photo in my original post belongs to a friend of mine. I have a set of C5 magnesium wheels for sale and he is thinking about buying them. I didn't know if they would fit or if they would need some type of adapters etc.I wanted to have all that information in my head before he asks.

C4's were designed with same overall diameter front/rear and unless you compensate with different sidewall height on the 17/18 to keep close to the same overall diameter it will effect handling, braking and vehicle traction/launch some. Different sidewall heights would look like hell especially needing the taller ones on the front This only leaves one option if you care about performance driving and that is to spend some time getting the suspension to work correct with the offset height. I am running 265's in the front and prefer them over a wider tire for overall road manners.
