Default turns over a while

ok...I posted yesterday and got mixed answers, I paid close attention today...I have a 91 base model Corvette with 5.7L....new batt, full tank of premium gas,,,,start up and it cranks for 5 to 6 seconds then starts everytime...runs rough like its flooded for 4 to 6 seconds then smooths out. Highway runs awesome, in town runs great, stop signs it feels and sounds like its loading up. If I shut it off and wait between 1 to 4 minutes it fires right up...anytime after 5 minutes it starts all over again with extended crank time of 5 to 6 seconds then starts....HELP!!!

Check your fuel pressure and see how long it holds. Might be a leaky injector or fpr. Pull the vacuum hose off the fpr and smell for fuel. When you turn the key on without cranking do you hear the fuel pump run for two seconds?

As I mentioned in your other thread. The fuel pressure is bleeding down after it sits for a few minutes. Most likely leaky injectors. Probably some varnish build up from being in storage.

An induction service of some time is probably called for.

It runs rough for a few seconds because the leaky injectors are dumping raw fuel into the engine that needs to be burned off when it does start up.

I guess I thought about the injector service also....but that's $128...wouldn't I be better off to stick that money towards new injectors...prolly no guarantee in the service fixing it....or am I wrong?

There are much more economical options to try first. Pick up a bottle of Techron for less than $10 and add it to your tank per the instructions.

There are also quite few DIY options, like Seafoam, that can be had for not much money and a few minutes of your time.

If it were me and it was running fine when you parked it, I would clean the existing injectors before tossing in the towel and buying new injectors.

Clamp off the return line and see if it still bleeds off fast. If so, it is the injectors. If not, probably regulator or pulsator in the tank.

If you clean it, and IMO, you should be doing that every so often depending on your use, it should let you know if it is bad or not. When they clean it, they test it so you can see what is bad. I have found that for what I do, every 3 years seems to bring it back to balance within 1 or 2 cc as opposed to being 20-30 cc out.

Regardless, I'd test first and see if the leak occurs somewhere else before I suspect the injectors. After I solve that issue, I'd send the injectors out for cleaning and testing and while that is happening, I'd take the pump out and replace it with fuel rated hose and change the sock. http://www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.a...IK-005&eq=&Tp=

You can toss the wiring and the foam thing for the pump. Use the rest.
