In the process of putting 85 back together, when I bought the car the hood wasn't on it , I had to do some work to the front end . I am now ready to put the hood back on and would appreciate some input like how many shims are normally used how to adjust and tighten hinges best way keep from fighting it!!!!!!!

While you're getting the hood alignment figured out, I'd suggest removing the dagger pins in the hood latches. If the hood closes with these way out of alignment, they may get stuck in the recesses, making it almost impossible to get your hood open!
After you get the hood fitting good, install and adjust these dagger pins one at a time. Grease the cone in the latch, and clean the dagger pin. This will show you when you're off-center. You might want to block the latch levers open during this alignment process.
