84 CAT. QUESTION,
I'M INSTALLING FLOWMASTER MUFFLERS, NEW REAR Y & CAT. I'VE SEEN POSTS TALKING ABOUT GUTTED CATS? CAN THIS BE DONE SMOOTHLY SO NOT TO CAUSE FLOW PROBLEMS, & IF SO HOW? OR IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, AS IN, A FILLER PIPE. IF SO, WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

You can have a test pipe made at an exhaust shop depending on if they want to. You can just gut the cat with a long bar or pipe and a hammer. It will be smooth the media breaks easily and will blow out when you start it with the rest of the exh. unbolted. A gutted cat is a nice gain on an 84 and sounds good too a bit loud though. :cheers:

I hollowed out my cat a while back. Idle sounds the same to maybe a little deeper but ot barks pretty good under load. I left the empty body inplace to pass a visual emmision inspection.

I SEE YOU'VE INSTALLED A 160 DEGREE THERMOSTAT, WHAT WERE YOUR NORMAL RUNNING TEMPS. BEFORE AND AFTER? I'VE ALSO READ A FEW POSTS ABOUT DRILLING HOLES IN THE STAT BASE, SOUNDS LIKE IT MIGHT HELP. I CURRENTLY RUN BETWEEN 205 & 220. I'D LIKE TO SEE IT STAY CLOSER TO 200 OR BELOW IF POSSIBLE. I'M NOT A MECHANIC, BUT DO ENJOY TINKERING WITH WHAT I FEEL CONFIDENT ON. ANY HELP W/ IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE MUCH APPRICIATED.
