Default 1991 Dash into 1988. Difficulty? Thread where done?

Not crazy about the dash in my 88. How difficult is it to install a 91 dash? Would love to move my window controls.

- sounds like a ton of work, and a schitt load full of money. while some may say it's fairly easy, i'd bet you'll be opening a can of worms. it won't just stop with the dash, but continue on to the door panels. no way in hell would I attempt this conversion. way easier to sell and buy....

And people wonder why this isn't their first choice for information.
Ask a question and it is "troll-bait". Exactly what part is troll-bait?
Pretty sure it is clear that they are nothing alike, other wise WHY would one want to change? DUH!
If one has new interior, new top, low mileage, custom body, it MIGHT not be easy to "just sell and replace".
But some people automatically go towards the negative instead of answering questions.

Thank you to the one posting an actual answer. My search skills aren't the best here.

Search goes back to 2007.. I did my conversion in 2002.. I would say the best idea is to find a wrecked 90-91 to get most the parts..

when I did it I replaced the the engine harness at the same time and I grafted the rear harness to work with the 91 dash. Later I replaced the front body harness (lights etc)

I used a 1991 ECM, at the time I bought a new CCM and had it programmed. the CCM will be the biggest challenge although I think if you had manual AC you could not use the CCM and then ditch the OEM cluster for an aftermarket/Custom one.

sorry if I came across somewhat negative, so let me give you more of an answer you are looking to hear. with Jeff, you would be better off buying a 90-91 donor. my preference would be a 90, since it would have the same body style. not sure it has any advantage though. it would be advantageous to get the donor with the same interior color. you will pretty much have to gut the dash, door panels, and console assembly to fit into the lines of the new curved dash. hopefully, the donor car will have all the parts in good usable condition - door panels, console trim and bezel assemblies, etc.. since you have new interior, i'm assuming new carpet, so you will have to obtain new console side carpeting to match your new 88 style carpet and color. I don't know if the door sill carpeting is compatible with the new door panels. wiring wise, you will need the at least the door harnesses, since the window controls are located within the door panels and not the console. I'm guessing you need the console harness for the power seat controls. as Jeff says, you may need to splice or graft harnesses for the main instrument panel, heater/AC controls, etc.. not sure about the engine harness, but i'd guess it's not plug and play. one other area you will have to address is the steering wheel - apples and oranges, along with all the heating/ac ventilation ducts. hopefully with the donor car, l all the plastic sub-structures and parts will be good, and usable, without the typical age cracking on the mounting points. so, not to sound negative, I say go for it. it should be relatively straight forward with a good donor car. , and have fun!

Joe C,

No advantage of the 90 or 91.. both essentially the same.. 1991 has the Retained Accessory Power. I have a Module I need to add to my 1990 for the RAP n my car.

Unless you have done a ton of other things, like body/Paint and motor I would just sell and buy a 90-newer

My 89 was custom painted, new motor etc.. already
