If I had an '88 or older that uses the older "bell shaped" sender I might consider this, use the later OPS/FUEL sender/switch and connector to replace both devices at the rear of the engine. The sender has very similar specifications and the FUEL is part of the OPS. One component.

The bell shaped hasn't been used for years and I'd guess anything in anyone's box might likely be an "off-shore knock-off". Maybe NOT but there's very few responsible manufacturers.

This GM sender (or equivalent) should work 10201491 and an appropriate connector would be a GM# 12085499 (or equivelant).

The new sender would be wired using this as a guide.

I used a Wells image because it's readily available and I've used Wells for many TEMP/PRESSURE/ON/OFF devices through the years. I ain't suggesting buying Wells so I've supplied the GM that should "cross reference" for many. I might have a different choice for parts but that's the first solution that came to mind.

I wouldnt say "bad experience". Instead, its just much more hassle to install a mechanical gage than it is to fix the original gage. Also, the mechanical ones seem to inevitably end up leaking inside the car at some point; adding to the bs factor.

The GM/OE original part #'d hasn't been available for many years. If you found an NOS on eBay you would want a 14078954 but determining that it's OE/GM NOS can be difficult. I'd think there could maybe be some still on dealers shelves, call a local check the part # and ask if there's a dealer in the vicinity with maybe stock. If you found a sender with 80 on the HEX I'd maybe try it. Anything that doesn't have an 80 on the HEX - leave it alone. If you buy one from anyone check it for accuracy before the install. Shouldn't be difficult.

Consider what I mentioned earlier in the thread maybe!

Any thoughts on whether this switch would replace the two oil pressure units? It came up on Rock Auto when I was looking to buy a new switch. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....041208&jsn=497

Hi
The c4 84-89 oil pressure sender behind inlet manifold under to the right of distributor is a single wire one, see the link to Ecklers website below.

Thanks for the info. I've actually replaced the single wire sending unit once before. That part was junk though so I have to do it again.

I talked to the company that makes the part I linked before from Rock Auto and they told me the single unit will replace the two that are currently on the car. The wiring is as follows from what they told me.

Middle prong = wire from single-wire sending unit.
Top/bottom prongs = two wires from dual-wire sending unit.

I have one on the way so I'll let everyone know how it works.
