The MAF is a restriction and you can mod it, search descreen MAF

Aren't those screens placed in MAFs to straighten the air as it passes by the sensor?

Are you referring to the piece that goes from the MAF to the throttle body ? That should not be too big a deal.

Is it also worth while when doing the radiator flush to bypass the coolant going through the throttle body also. I have read there are gains to be got there too.
I think those are going to be your problem. I don't know about the other brands first hand except that Hookers didn't work well in the F-body I had for fitment and plugs. TPIS fit in easy and plugs are nice. Don't even have to get under to get at 6 and 8.

I don't see the gain from a MAF unless you are severely modified. I would change what ever is from the throttle body to the heads and at the same time do long tube headers.

Depends on what you see as gains. Power? I doubt it will make much difference. I took it out because every 3 years, I take the TB out to clean the IAC thoroughly and that requires taking off the IAC housing and spraying everything down with brake cleaner to get the passages. Obviously new gaskets are used in assembly. I got the TPIS one because it means I don't have to fiddle with too many screws as they eliminated the hose going through. When my TB is off, I do injector cleaning. They always come back better than going in so there is something to think about when it comes to the buildup.

Hookers as in the header? I don't like those. I think the construction and material might leave something to be desired. Getting at the plugs might not be as convenient too. Female hookers? Sure.

How are we defining "works"? What was the gain?

I think he is Speed Density. If so, there won't be a MAF>

I'm not sure I would descreen the MAF without reprogramming the ECM. I have heard sometimes it causes problems.

I was always under the impression that 90 degree bends in your intake hurt airflow the most.

Doors? You mean a Vane Airflow Sensor? Last one I saw was on my 89 Merkur XR4Ti. Talk about walking down memory lane. I dumped that for a MAF unit which had 2 screws so you can calibrate it for the application used.
