Default Vertronix Tech 2

So on ebay there are many sellers of the GM Tech 2 scan tool.
Many of these are being advertised as "new" equipment but then have a price of a few hundred bucks ...

Here is one such add -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281995607749?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

So my question is; does anyone have any experience with these ? I am very skeptical since they all seem to originate from Hong hong or China ...

Bosch took over Vectronix a few years ago. Bosch warned of fake scanners and they would not support them. I like the price but not willing to take the risk. As the tech 2 becomes obsolete ,GM has moved to lap tops and tablets, more used dealer ones should hit the market

Well, for openers, our cars are OBDII, while the one advertised is for CAN bus. (Note the emphasis on CANdi, which is the Controller Area Network Diagnostic Interface.) It's not that it won't speak OBDII, it's that the CANdi module is unneeded for the C4s

The point of origin for a brand new unit is a little suspicious, as well.

Yeah I'm a little freaked out by the point of origin. In fact that's my problem. I have zero interest in buying a counterfeit knock off...

This one is a you get what you pay for I think. The tech2 can be used with candi module that would be body/chassis systems. The candi was developed allow tech2s operate on the advanced computer systems added to the new models. The tech 2 is intended to operate on all systems after 1997 not just OBDII. It's not obsolete yet but the new toys are coming out . I think it will be a few more years before the tech 2 starts to fade away. A real tech 2 kit is like 4k, tech2s use update over the net. I believe if it doesn't have a valid esn it may not get updates. I'm weary of a lot "too good to be true" deals out of asia and eastern europe. As far as I know GM has not published an warnings about Counterfeit tech2s.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. I remember them being a few thousands not hundreds...
