noise while backing up

noise while backing up

On my 1986, when i back up and start to apply the brake i here a noise that sounds like a pump is comming on. The gentelmen I bought the vette from said it was an auto ride hight adjustment. I dont feel any rise. Does anyone know what this sound might be/

Mine does that too. I think it's the ABS

its the ABS resetting itself when you reach 4mph

My '92 has made that noise backing up since it was new. It is the ABS system doing it's thing and is normal.

Yup, ABS self test. Sometimes called BITE (Built In Test Equipment) or in other applications, BIT. This system is heavily engineered and the system is checking the pump circuit, relays, etc. There is a note in the service manual telling service reps this is normal and not a problem. Enjoy.

Yep, it's called "the fart" in slang, as far as I know every Vette with ABS does it, but I know someone with a '91 vette with ABS that has never done it, and HE'S WORRIED ABOUT IT.
