Default Help with Spark Plug Wire lengths...

Does anyone know the lengths of each spark plug wire for all 8 cylinders on an '86? I've only recently had time to take care of some routine maintenance. The firing order was all messed up and made the car hard to start for a long time. Got that straigtened out now, but the wire lengths seem odd to me. I did replace them one at a time, but they seem off due to the previous firing order. Thanks for any help!

you can route wires to your safe preference. OE wires & routing. is a fairly simple process. The plugs that are furthest away 1&2 Will require the longest wires. Working down to the closest plugs 7&8 with the shortest wires. After market. wires "should" be the same length. But. no guarantee.

You can sort out your year using information in this thread:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-lengths.html

Pay attention to your year specifically just using the posts as reference. Post# 6 and #7 - much depends maybe on the routing you used originally for your replacements. The Information in that thread assumes "original" routing.

I don't see any reason why the wire lengths in my '84 would be different than your '86, as long as your dist. rotor is pointed at the #1 cylinder at #1 firing position (TDC, compression stroke). My wires route around the back of the heads, then along the sides of the rocker covers. I don't see why my CFI would be different than your TPI for wire lengths. My #2 & 3 wires cross over to the other side of the engine in front of the dist. while yours cross over behind the dist. but it looks to me like this shouldn't change the length requirements. All other wires route the same.

#1 - 41"______#2 - 45"
#3 - 45"______#4 - 37"
#5 - 27"______#6 - 29" almost straight (around dipstick)
#7 - 27"______#8 - 27"

Please note: I'm not arguing with WVZR-1. We both answered at the same time! Well, to be honest, he's a faster typist!

Got around to getting this done. My lengths were slightly different due to the fact that I am using aftermarket wires, but the lengths were close. This was a big help. Thank you!
