Default What can I expect from this engine?

My engine (87' model) is on it's last leg: it's a rod knocker :cuss :cry
This engine is being used in my 79' vette. With the exception of the Q-Jet intake, it's essentially the same engine as you C4 guys.

Since I don't know the extent of the damage to my engine and it's associated cost, I will have another similar engine built. It's an 87' model 350, from a GM truck. Estimates of my engine, taking into effect the Q-jet factor and age, is that it produces 230hp.

Does anyone know what the truck engines were rated at? I'm not sure of the exact truck model. It has the newer style intake (Vortec?), and steel heads. My engine has the aluminum heads, and older style intake pattern. Will I be giving up a lot of power with this other engine?

The engine to be rebuilt will get bored .030, mild cam, get a complete rebuild, add Edelbrock Performer "Vortec" intake for a Q-Jet, and possibly 1-5/8" headers. What kind of power could I expect from this? I haven't selected an exact cam, but it will be just a step above stock.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions!
