I am looking at a 89 Corvette and I noticed a connector zip tied to the top of the AC Compressor and what appears to be non GM wiring on one end of the connector.
I was wondering, what is the purpose of this connector and why would the original GM wiring harness have been bypassed.

The wire/Connector appears to goes to the A/C compressor, so I would Hazard to say that you have a New A/C clutch from Auto Zone or Equivalent. they come with no connectors so most people tend to cut the original harness to retain the plug.
The under hood could use a little clean up so you can see what is right or wrong but doesn't seem totally horrible, but needs attention I have seen much worse
Being it looks to be going where the electrical connector for the clutch, that seems very possible. Then again you have a different compressor than I do so maybe that's part of it too.
