I have a line on a top from a guy that has a 95. He states that he bought this top from a late 80's ( I think 87) and it doesnt fit his car. Something about the brackets. He said it should fit my 93. See my problem. Is he correct?
I was told that tops match up to body styles. 84-90 are the same & 91-96 are compatable. I could be wrong, but I would like to know for sure as well. I'm looking for a glass top for my 96.
3 different tops as follows;
84 - early 86
late 86 - 88
89 - 96
If that top does not fit his 95 it will not fit your 93 . If you buy an 89 or up , you should be safe, Guy
If the top is acrylic it can be buffed up to look like new. I started with #800 wet sand paper. Went to #1200 then used polishing compound with a buffer. Looks like new. :cheers:
I just bought a repacement top from Davies Corvette 800-236-2383 (John) with the the original hardcoated acrylic. Its 799 outright or 599 if you send them a good replacement frame. I'll let you guys know how it turned out.
Sounds like you got it taken care of. I had my acrylic replaced by Astro Tops a couple of years ago. They did a great job and it looks like new today. Can't tell it's been replaced. Mine was the bronze coated acrylic.
does the astro top replacemet tend to craze like the oem one does??? I like having a glass top, but mine has all kinds of stress fractures in the acrylic. I dont want to buy another one if its just going to happen again......

I can definitely verify this part. As a matter of fact, when I had early-86 replaced at the dealer, they kept ordering a new top for mine, but would not fit. As it turns out, GM (apparently) does not make the one for 84-86E anymore and they had to order a new kit which replaced the brackets in the windshield header so the top that was ordered would fit.
FYI - this wouldn't help with a cigarette burn on your top, but for future reference, I had a crack in my top and the insurance company got the glass, the conversion kit, and the front (foam) molding replaced for me. :)
"I have heard nothing but bad news from AstroTops. I believe it was Mr. Mojo who said the GM top is a much higher quality product."
I can't speak for others but after two years mine still looks like new. They were prompt and it looks like factory acrylic. I did send in my top and got back the same frame because I marked it, perhaps this makes a difference.
