Quick question. Wanted to put a 383 stroker over the winter. Crate motor 502 horse, 500 lbs torque. I was told today that my rear end in my car won't handle it, no matter what I do to it. Was going to have it geared at 3.73. Any one know if this is true or not? Thanks for any input on this.

You've been told pretty much what to expect (won't last), particularly if the car is a very early '84. If the later '84 dependability generally isn't "long lived" others knowing exactly what they've built and understanding it's weaknesses drive it appropriately and they've lasted.

The 84's all have D36 rear carriers. It's suggested to replace it with the D44 from a 85 or later manual transmission car which is a stronger unit. If you plan on driving on "drag radial" type tires you may need more upgrades.
