I have just converted my LT1 to an LT4 with the Hot cam.. 1.6 RR and also rebuilt my trans and upgraded my stall converter to 2600. It is an automatic of course and I am looking at what gears I should upgrade to 3.54 or 3.73. The car is not an everyday driver but I do take it on long trips... I do play with it of course but not serious racing. I want to make sure it will be worth upgrading from 3.07 gears. Whata think?
Looks like you set your Vette up for fun, in that case, be sure to go with the 3.73 gears. Anything less will be a dissipointment. esp since you already have 3.07s.
I recently gone from 2.59 to 3.54 and in 1st and 2nd gears now drives like a rocket !! I do alot of in town driving and the 700r4 is not very happy with this !! I have to shift into overdrive becouse in drive it changes alot of gears now but It is worth it when you floor it in 1st gear !!! I suggest that if you have a modified engine you go with 3.73 !! I went with 3.54 becouse I have a stock L-98 :)
Wait a minute - I thought ALL collector's editions were LT4?!! Anyway, my 96 CE has 3.45's from the factory, and they suck. Terrible bottom end, thanks to the tranny gears. Going to a 3.73 isn't worth it in my opinion. Go with 4.09's and be done with it. You'll still cruise at low rpm at 70-80mph. I'm changing to 4.09's next week.
Don't go past 3.73's with an auto tranny. With 3.45's I run ~2500rpm at 74mph on the highway. 3.73 would be ideal for the 1/4 but I like my top end of 150+ too. :D
