Default 1985 fuel pump swap Resolved !

After doing alot checking fuel pressure and all that things pointed to the fuel pump. Besides all that I went and bought a new one and right away I could tell the top where the two wires connect to the pump was not the same. I tried anyways trying the wires both ways incase they were mismatched considering the wires weren't marked. No response from the pump on either install. Looking around even the ac delco pump doesn't look the same as the one found in the car so I'm stumped. As far as the replacement I followed instructions found on here to complete the task so I don't know what the deal is. Fuel pump relay is new just a side note. Thanks in advance for any advice

Do you have fsm? I'm guessing fuel pump isn't working. Are there any markings on pump? + or -? Normally gray wire is 12v to sender for fuel pump. Harness for pump and level sensor plugs in to bottom of sender check your voltage to make sure connections are correct.

the aftermarket setups are different, you need to cut and join the new plug that comes with the pump, either crimp or solder if you can.
basically the original plug isnt compatible with the aftermarket pump.

You had the original pump in your car. They have since changed them. Did you get an instruction sheet with it? You should have also gotten a few sets of wires with it since they are more of a universal GM replacement.

If I remember correctly it's the black ground to the pump frame that you cut and splice.

Note that the pump will not have any voltage on it unless the engine is rotating (either cranking or running). That's after the initial 2 second fuel rail prime when the ignition is first turned on.

So a suggested related thread came up and I read it, it was talking about a blown fuse and what do ya know it was toasted.

Oh to add onto that must have recently blown because ot wasn't that the original fuel pump was dead completely its out was just very weak when I tested the fp at the rail

So I made sure to swap the fuse and noticed what could have caused it is that the new set up of connectors are too close therefore the + and - make contact to separated the two with electrical tape and gave it a shot and it started up fill pressure so far so good. Thanks for all the advice and insight CF these threads are always so helpful and thought provoking.
