Prom chip change HELP?
My 88 had the original chip from GM and my brother`s 89 had the hypertech stage 2 chip ,,So we switched them becouse I am trying it in the quarter mile ! and here is what happend !! Now in my 88 the overdrive light on the digital dash came on and stays on with the hypertech chip, and with my GM chip stays off ...... On my brothers 89 vette with my 88 GM chip has the- 1 to 4 shift light - on the digital dash and with the hypertech chip it stays off :confused: What seems to be the problem ???? Are the chip interchangables or NO the engines both runs fine !!!

Not interchangable.
89 deletes cold start, has different tranny functions programmed, and is just different. A lot of times you can use the 89's BIN as a base to start with for an 88, but tweaking needs to be done.

Ever heard of a BCC code? If your's and your Bro's PROM BCC code were the same, they would be interchangable.
Trans type, Rear gears ratio, hardware diff's are all at the top of the list of things that could be different.
BTW Don't expect too much from the Hyper, some are even slower w/ their stuff.
