I was wondering if there is a way to change the colors of the LCD dash from multi color to just all white..... I know that it's not the bulbs that are color, it would be the plastic in there.... I was wondering if anyone else had this thought or has done it or something like it.....
Re: LCD dash lighting change...to all white (apollo30346)
actually there is a site that talks about it, I have even contemplated it myself, but i want to change it to a lite blue on the numbers etc, but leave the graph's as they are, my only problem is where to find the acrylic sheets to accomplish it. It doesnt look hard to do at all.
Re: LCD dash lighting change...to all white (apollo30346)
I have done some research on this in the past. It would be very cool to change the colors of the dash and supposedly it can be done. There is a sheet of color inside the cluster. I have read somewhere that if you simply remove the color sheet, then the illumination will be "Chevy Blue" like the center panel lighting. I'm guessing that the "Chevy Blue" would be almost white if it looks anything llike the center panel lighting. So, maybe if you remove the color sheet, you will have white or almost white guages? I've been contemplating blue and green guages to match my Pioneer stereo. However, the reason I haven't tried it yet is because I can't figure what type of material to use or where to get it. It would have to be a translucent high temperature plastic, acetate, or color media. Also, the high temperature Stanley bulbs would need to be swapped for a cooler non-halogen bulb like a 194 as to not melt the new material. So, in theory you could remove the color sheet and have white or light blue guages. You will however lose the redline for tachometer and red low fuel light and such. One may be able to have blue or red guages by removing the color sheet and using color 194 bulbs. Or customize with some high temp acetate or something. Let me know if you try this, I'd like to do the same. :flag
194 bulbs would be fantastic because of COST if nothing else........ and also availability........ last time I replaced all my dash bulbs I had to go to four different auto parts stores!!!!!! they each had only one!!!!! :seeya :flag
Thanks for the insight.... I will see what I can come up with as far as replacing the color sheet.... Thats what I thought it was in there... But I need to see how and what it's made of......I have never got in there yet to replace anything so I wondered how hard it was to do it...When replacing the bulbs has anyone looked at the sheet on how it comes out..?
Go to ebay and enter "corvette gauges". The search should yield products from a company called procarparts. The gauges are white during the day and light blue at night. Let us know if you do the install how easy it was and what you think.
Looked at both areas you sugested.... lots of info in Corvette Mag.... I will go into it this weekend if I have the time... Have afew projects underway on the vette right now.....
Let me know if you guys come up with anything else or some more thoughts.......
