Got very late start. Harmonic balancer came off so easy.. now change all wire plugs then install new opti..
I hopeful it fix soon
I wounder if it was original opti my pulley fell off 20 minutes after my arm did. Your a lucky man. Just loosen the power steering pump and slide it forward to get the wires through the hell hole. Do one at a time and pay attention to the looms. Do not forget the dielectric grease and all wires click twice. I put locktight on the opti cap screws. Do not forget to seal the water pump bolts.
Looks like the original. It runs great now. My car had never seen rain before I bought it last year so maybe it wasn't as stuck as normal.. we are building everything back together now
The car is up and running. Running very strong idling very smooth. My only concern is if it only was 76 degrees outside on freeway I was holding between 195 and 199 temperature. 195 to 197 most of the time. In town with the AC running on this part of town with lots of Lights with a lot of sitting at the lights I ran around 210 to 212.. when I wasn't sitting at all the lights more opened Town driving it was right around 204 to 207. In my driveway we let it run for over half an hour after I got it running . the guy check everything out with my tech 2. All was great but the temperature did get up around 222 but the fan doesn't kick on until like 233.. I just don't know if that's running correctly on temperature or not the radiators look nice through not plugged up at all. I'm thinking about upgrading to a bigger heavier Duty radiator I don't know what do you guys think about my temperatures. When I mentioned this before in a form they told me it's a Corvette they run warm. What is a normal range

On the water pump bolts I wasn't the one to put them back in I told the guy to put sealant on it I believe he did but I don't know for sure. I'll have to ask him I had bought them for bolts. The guy that helped me has done three or four of them in the past. It was a big help because he knew basically what we were doing. Took longer than he said it would but less time than I thought it would. we spent about 5 maybe 5 and half hours on it
So you pulled the radiator out and cleaned it and the ac coils. Also pulled the knocks and flushed? Might need another burping or two. I just jack up the right rear and let it bubble out. Then start and hold the gas a bit while filling while putting the cap on. Fans should come on at 228 and 238. Mine will run just under 200 on the freeway and fans will kick on while sitting. Ac or defrost will turn them on too.

Did not pull that knocks out we just flushed it with freshwater I'm going to check it again for air before I leave for work. make sure it's topped off with water. We had one problem forgot to install the temperature sensor in the water pump I started to fill it up with antifreeze and lost a quarter gallon on the ground I guess. I will check antifreeze level when I get to work.

So you left over a gallon of crap filled undistilled water in there? And no answer on pulling the radiator and cleaning it right. And you got your opti covered in antfreeze. Oh well I tried.

I clean the radiator no we got no antifreeze on the Opti look dry as could be. I flush the engine with fresh water. We had clear water . We try to be as careful as possible and make sure everything was done right.
I have one question. I understand totally water kills Opti. the Opti has to stay dry. How to keep opto dry when it's at the front of the engine when you'r driving on wet roads. Water has to go up in engine compartment. Is there something that needs to be done to make sure no water gets on the Opti.
I really do not want to have to change it again very soon

You want to use distilled water in the system not tap water. Doing it your way this was not done. And you still left a bunch of rusty crap in the block that has accumulated over the last 20 plus years. One side of mine I took the knock out and nothing came out I had to run a wire up there to break it loose. I did this to both side and broke a lot more crap out. This was after I flushed and ran it three times getting clear water each time. If you did not pull the radiator and look to see it looks cleaner than it is. And no way to clean the ac coil good. The air goes through it first.

Most damage it done to them with power washers. Many put a nipple and a hose on the weep hose on the water pump. It was a bad design for that reason. Did you locktight the cap?

If you're talking about distributor cap no because I assumed it was already done at the factory. I know what happens when you assume.
I drive 20 miles of work roughly 8 of them on the freeway just the start of rush hour so not real bad traffic yet . with AC it say 93 out. 196 to 200 freeway in town 200 to 210. Then stop store came up as normal it was 215 is it set. rest way work it was slow coming down only about a mile-and-a-half 2 miles to work. Now those temperatures OK on this car I know it 90 - 100 out in town it will go up to 225 even 230 long waits. at 85. Sitting in the driveway for half an hour and got up to 220

No, I wouldn't worry unless you're going through a foot of water (which you shouldn't ).
Good job on changing the opti by the way. If you didn't pull the radiator to clean the fins on it and the A/C condenser, you can still drain it, pull the shroud and do it when you have a chance. The temps can vary and the LT1 is designed to run hotter anyway.
Just one other question, however. The new thermostat is a 180 degree, as per the factory, right? Many times the parts store can be negligent and give you a 195 under the mistaken assumption that it is the factory temp.

It's not the cap that needs locktite - it's the rotor screws. When installing a new opti, blue locktite should be put on the rotor screws so that they don't loosen and allow the rotor to move and break up inside the cap. You don't want or need to locktite the cap though you may want to put a small bead of sealant around the edge where the cap attaches to the body of the distributor to help keep oil and antifreeze out of it.
I've driven the car only 40 miles so far to work and home. Definitely more power than I can remember having. my gas mileage seems to be up at least four or five miles to the gallon. Last November my gas mileage took a dive and not return. The next few tanks of gas will verify this or not. Thank you all for your help I tried to make sure I get everything everybody said. I did miss a few things but overall you guys made it a lot easier for me. Thank you
