Radiator Fan
On a 84 Vette, when you turn the key in the on position is it common for the fan to come on, maybe I just never notice it before. What made me ask this is that I found a little pigtail not connected so when I hooked it up and turn the key the fan came on. When it was disconnected the fan fan would come on when the temp. hit a number. If any one has any knowledge of this please give me a hollard.

As shipped from the factory, the fan did not come on just because you turned the key to the on position.
It is controlled by engine operating temp.

The wire is black, located by the tension pulley, the unit it connects to is a Harrison unit I believe it is part of the air conditioning. Don't know if it was ever connected.Seen it laying there so I had to ask .Before my tinkering the fan always came on as the temp crept up.thanks for the info. I have to ask you one more question, how long should the fuel line stay primed. Some days I go out and crank the car and it starts right away other times it just cranks so when I give it a shot of starting fluid it stars right up. Wondering if the fuel pump is on its way out

On the schematic, this is called the "A/C Pressure Switch". Its purpose is to turn on the radiator fan any time the A/C is turned on. If the fan comes on when you plug in this switch, and the A/C is not on, you have a bad switch (or someone installed the wrong switch).
If this "pigtail" isn't shown in my picture, we need a picture from you.

Does your air conditioning work okay? I'm out of my league from this point. Is it possible your a/c is over-charged? I'd say it's time for an a/c professional to test for the proper pressures in your system. I don't know about removing that switch. Anybody??
