Default RE-Idling Issues

Change the Coolant Temperature Sensor, Started the car purred like it did when I first got it.Waited about half hour took her for a ride ran like a charm Believe on my 3rd stop while in gear the rpm star chasing itself.Running from 7 down to 3 and eventually it stopped.I sat there intentionally to see it would do. just what Trying to figure my next move ,perhaps will clean the Idle Control Sensor.to see if that helps .Anyone else has any suggestions please give me a hollar. This is getting frustrating.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Do you have access to a scan tool? If so, what are the IAC counts while idling (smoothly)?

You might also spray some MAF cleaner on the small wires inside the MAF sensor. They can get oil and other junk on them and give bad reading to Ecu

His profile says that he has an '84. If that is true, he doesn't have a MAF to check. '84 is speed/density.

I will assume when you said you replaced the coolant sensor, you were referring to the front sensor.

Was the one you replaced of the old style? Was the replacement the new style requiring you to cut off the old connector and attach the new style connector? If so the first thing I would check is the new connector.

It is also possible the new sensor was DOA.

If yours is like mine, you will fine the idle air control valves pretty grungy. Can't hurt to clean them. Actually found one of mine to only be hand tight.

Next I would start checking all the vacuum lines and for a loose upper intake manifold.

How many miles? When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?
