I want to but a Corvette as my first car and I'm 15. I will need as much money as possible so are there any ways to make the gas mileage better or any cars that look like an 84 vette with better gas mileage?
When I was a kid I asked how a Cadillac did on gas mileage. I'm going to pass along his sage advice: If you have to ask, you can't afford it!
15 and a Vette - a disaster waiting to happen IMO. Get something small and simple and get some experience behind the wheel before you consider something like a Vette. And take an auto repair class, you'll need it before you're done.
A c4 with a 6 speed can get over 30mpg if you keep a light foot!. Not too many vehicles that can do over 150 mph and capable of both but not at the same time!
I agree, take an auto mechanics course. You'll need it. That's what I did at age 24. Then bought a 76 C3 and I was able to work on it myself for 13 years thanks to the courses I took. By the way, gas mileage sucked.

I like my 1 the best when getting 3 to 5 mpg never bought it for mpg and honestly don't care. A 16 year old in a Corvette will have ins payments that will be memorable.
My first car when I was a teenager was a 1973 Cadillac which got 6-8 miles per gallon back when they were still making c4s. My c4 today gets better MPG than most suv's and pickups people drive.

I have full coverage for two vehicles at around $800/yr. I'm 59. That said, I think a Corvette and a 15-yr-old will be more challenging in terms of insurance costs than gas. Maybe a kid thinking about mileage would be the type to have the right "mindset" to own one? Obviously the HP numbers on the mid 80's keep you a bit more "grounded".
As for mileage, I agree that the ZF6 gets the best mileage. Automatics pull 25 mpg in most circumstances. That extra gear gets you another 5 mpg on the hwy. 17mpg is about the best you can get from any of them around town.
Even with my ZF6 equipped 383, my Corvette does better than my 4x4 in mileage. As odd as it may sound, I consider my Vette my economy car...and usually select it for my transportation when I'm headed onto the hwy....unless it's winter and bad weather.
