Default Paint

I've got a '90 convertible with the original paint. It looks pretty good, and since the car is a driver, I don't want to spend money on a repaint. The only issue is, there are various stone chips and one scratch (about an inch long) on the hood. Is there a trick to making stone chips less noticeable?

Try to NOT wax it. The wax gets in those voids and looks bad........ use a good car wash soap and it will have a nice shine if it's a clearcoated car :seeya

Get a bottle of touch up paint for your car, fill in the chips and scratch. Get one of the different excess paint removers (blob remover) you can do a
search here and find info about them. These remove only the extra touch up paint and do not hurt the regular paint.
After a little getting used to, you should hardly be able to find them once fixed.
Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try to find some this weekend and give it a try! Not that I'm cheap or anything, but paint chips would be depressing on a $5K paint job!

Wanted to pass along, theres a web site, and dang I cant rem. the name of them...they sell touch up paint plus a solvent to fill/smooth bad chips.

Heres how its supposed to work...fill the chip in..when it dries, pour the solvent onto a rag, then rub until the chip lines dissapear.

Car dealers use this trick...I worked at a dealer and we called these guys called "Chips Away" and they would come and get the used cars that had chips...they would spray the chips in with a mini spray gun and after like 30 minutes or so,theyd pour a liquid solvent on the rag and wipe back and forth until the touch up lines were gone and it would blend in so well you couldnt see it anymore. One car had 20 chips on the hood and when they were done,I couldnt see any repair spots.

The circular edges were gone...this was done with some bad scratches too.
Sprayed paint along the scratch...
after it dried, rub over it until the edge line dissovled and it was gone.

Im sorry I cant post the site that has the chip fixing solution but maybe someone here will post it..there was a post a few months back about chips and the web link posted then....back to the top for ya.
:)

Yep, I would have to agree with the above post. The trick is removal of the excess paint. You should be able to find that removal stuff same place you find the touch up paint (local auto parts). :D

You can also go to the automotive paint places and have them custom mix the exact paint for you. I think it was a Dupont store I was in looking at the various touch up paints and the guy asked me what I wa looking for. Explained it to him and he said 'no problem'. He looked up the specs. Did a few drops of 'this and that' per the specs, shook it up and gave me two little finger nail polish sized bottles. $10, and I thought all they mixed was pints/quarts.
