Default Any difference between '92 and '93 LT1 engines?

Am looking to buy my first 'Vette. The two cars I'm looking at both have the LT1 engine, but the '92 has the silver-colored (aluminum?) 4-bolt valve covers, whereas the '93 has the typical 4-bolt black covers. The '92 engine looks much nicer than the '93, just because of this difference. Any other differences between the engines?

Different cam. That and some of the early '92s had a different serpentine belt. It had the ridges on both sides and was routed a little differently. That's about it. More changes happened in 94 with MAF, improved opti being the more major ones.

'92-'93 were speed density cars, '93(and up) had 10 lbs/ft more torque due to a slight cam change. '92 and '93 were multi port fuel injection where the '94-'96 were sequential fuel injection. '95-'96 had the upgraded optispark.
There are a few other slight differences. Also, my manual said '93 came stock with a double sided serpentine belt, but I've heard different stories there. And not having to pay $300 on a MAF for my '93 made me happy. :D Mr. Mojo is the one I got this info from awhile back, contact him, he knows! :seeya

Nothing of any real consequence. They changed from the double sided to the single sided belt in mid year 93. All the parts will interchange.

For those that like PKE (passive keyless entry) became standard in 93. Seats are different because of embroidered headrest. The engine differences are well covered. Look for J55 brake option, G92 rear end (I think), Not GM1 which is 2.59:1, FX3 for adjustable ride select ($$$), FE1 is soft ride suspension..... 93 got smaller front wheels 17x8.5's. 92 had 17x9.5 all around.

There's a bunch more changes also that aren't motor related you may be interested in. In 94 they updated the interior, 95 had different body gills, and 96 the LT-4 motor. The Manual trans was modified in later years and was made weaker and quieter. 93+ had keyless entry. 94+ had glass rear windows on verts. 93+ had 8.5 front rims instead of 9.5, etc. Most of the parts are interchangable or replaceable with better stuff anyway so I'd look for: best condition, options such as manual trans, sport seats, FX3, and decide if I liked the earlier or later interior. I'm partial to the 89-93 but lots of people like the 94+. Good luck.

All year LT1's were available with 9.5" front wheels and big brakes. Packages that offered it varied over the years.
