I replaced the Hypertech chip in my '87 with a factory chip. It actually runs better with it. The only issue is the factory temp for the fan is 225F, I'd like to get it down to 200F or so. How have others done this besides a new chip?
OP - Do you know what your temps actually are driving down the road at speed? Fan turn on has little to do with cooling efficiency in a functional cooling system If the cooling module (condenser and radiator) is free of debris, water pump is doing it's job you should seldom see fan operation in reasonable ambient temperatures.
Have you ever checked the temps with a scanner when driving? If you've not, anything you attempt is strictly an "adventure" -WAG. Do you have the AUX cooling fan?
ECM turns the fan OFF @ 35 MPH. Is your speedometer correct? There's way more to cooling than just the XXX° programmed into the PROM.

Hi,
A common mod for the L98 is to buy a lower rated temp sending unit that runs the fans. Just about all the Corvette places sell them (Ecklers, Mid-America, etc). Cheap and works fine and doesn't care about the chip used.
As for the "you like to replace fans" comments, the fans also come on when A/C or defrost is used. So, they run more than just when temps get over 225.
I'm going to replace the switch in the driver's side head and use it to turn on both fans (I have the optional pusher). It's fine (<200F) as long as I'm moving, it's sitting in traffic where it heats up. There's a lot of plastic under that hood and a 29 year old cooling system. I'd just like to keep it under 210F or so if I can.

before you start modifying anything, reference GREGGPENN's thread on the fan switch vs. thermostat. I would not cut the ECM out of the picture just yet. personally, i'd go with a 180° stat, and aux cooling fan switch ACD# D1855B (GM# 14043275) -- 205°/190° (on/off), and not re-wire anything at this point.
