Default Pilot Bearing removal

I need to get a pilot bearing out of my crank. So far, it's not budging. I tried a Matco puller that my cousin has, but the small ears are 1/2 rounded, and with the small radius on the backside of the bearing, it just slips off. I really don't want to take heat to the crank, and I don't really want to be chiseling this thing out either. I doubt the grease trick will work... this thing is in there TIGHT. :(

I used a puller rented at Auto Zone. It has an adjustment that forces the tangs outward, and worked really well. Others have had to chisel, which is probably the only way you're going to get it. It's not that big a deal, just be careful. Remember, it's only another pilot bushing going in, so small nicks on the crank aren't fatal.

I used a slide hammer. Took a while, but she came out.

You can also try a bolt slightly larger then the hole. Thread it in, bottom it out and keep turning.

this is what I did. Worked great. This of course on a bushing, not a roller bearing in my case.

The grease thing WILL work.
That's how all the old guys used to get'em out.
Before all these mah-vah-lus extraction tools were invented.
Of course, it helps to have a spare pilot shaft laying around you can apply the old ten pound hammer to.

This does work very well. Even on a bushing that is worn and the hole is not perfectly round. That's the problem with the grease trick.
I have a big bolt with the bushing still threaded on it in my toolbox. :D
