Default Windshield Wipers Blocked by Hood

Hello folks,

I haven't driven my C4 in the rain, but noticed that when I try to use the wipers they get stuck on the hood when they retract for storage. Do I need to adjust the hood in order to fix this?

Driving to the Oregon coast this weekend and there might be showers.

Thanks,

Bernie

You likely only need the "correct blades" Year matters!

most folks here have clearance problems with aftermarket wiperblades. I have had issues on most everything and gone back to using GM OE replacement blades. not sure what year since you didn't ID your corvette, but AC Delco 8-2202 (GM# 89001009) fit and clear perfectly on both my 85 and 90 corvette. they are old school, low tech blades, but they are cheap enough to replace every few years. if you're like most, you don't do all that much driving in the rain. i'm thinking that number applies through 1995, and 96 may call out a different number - ??? rock auto seems to have the best pricing.

I replaced them with Trico exact fit. Should I buy them from the Chevy dealer?

Replace the blades only hope you did not get rid of the holder.

You should be aware that there are two different diameters for the pins that your blades fit onto for the C4's. The early style have smaller pins, but I don't know what year they changed to the larger sized pins.

In an emergency, and your wipers are stuck under the hood, you could pull your hood release to get the wiper working.

They do pop out on their own. Just want to make them operate smoother.

If they are popping out you're doing damage. Get new blades and find the old parts and fix it right.

for the difference in price, IMO, no reason to buy the refill - i'd get the whole assembly

i'm thinking the smaller diameter pins are 84 thru 94 or 95, the larger pins are 95 and 96, or maybe 96 only - ???. don't quote me on it though...

I do know the AC Delco 8-2202 (GM# 89001009) have the smaller pins and a perfect fit on my 85 and 90. the delco 8-2201 are for the larger pins.

I do keep several sets in my parts stash.

I had mine replaced the other year at the Chevy garage, they were not the right ones. I finally found some from Napa that were a match (as far as I can tell) to the originals). Work great, clear the hood, right size hole etc.

On my '96 I had problems finding aftermarket blades low enough to slide under the hood. Went to the Chevy dealer and had them order the correct wiper blades. They did not have them is stock. For a 1996 the part number is 89001011. In 2012 they were $13 bucks each.

Took a closer look at the wiper arms. They are worn out. That is the problem. Shopping around for replacements.

Generally speaking the only thing that creates a failure of the arm is the spring that creates the pressure to keep the wiper against the windshield. The splined feature seldom fails and the pin fit to the blade I don't believe I've ever seen a failure. Washer nozzle & hose feature certainly creates issues.

What do you feel is "worn out" on yours? Arms are '84 - '94, if a person could find '95+ arms and do matching blades that's generally considered an "upgrade".

Looks like the spring fell out of the passenger side arm. Driver side works fine.

I currently have the same issue. Didn't notice it till the other day. The blades from Auto Zone are pinned down by the hood and either don't pop out at all or if they do it pops out roughly taking a small bit of paint with the edge/underside of the hood.

Eckers is out of stock currently. I see Corvette Central has them. Has anyone gotten these wiperblades from there? Any feedback would be appreciated.
