Getting ready to order the bronze gear and bushings for my 88's headlights. I was just wondering, is there any difference in the ones sold by Ecklers or Mid-Am, or are the they Same?
I have only used Mid America thus far, but one problem I have had is that I wanted to return some Carpet Saver (bucket types) to them and asked for a return slip.. The lady on the phone asked why I was returning them. I told her that they don't fit "perfectly". ie- they interfere w/the pedals and slip, etc. She said that she had never heard of that b4 and has worked there 2 yrs. They really didn't fit the way I wanted them to. oh well. They are good otherwise.
You can also try Corvette Corner or Corvette Central for parts. Corvette Central has a very nice catalog with illustrations and a lot of detail. For the headlight repair try rodneydickman.com... This is a Fiero guru who sells the headlight repair delron bushings cheaper than anyone else. The Fiero and 'Vette use the same headlight setup.
Personally, I think Ecklers and Mid-America are overpriced. I've found a lot of the items they sell are more expensive than the dealer. Zip is OK but my local dealer has been really great with the pricing and availability.
I, after, all the ordering I have done have also decided to order most of my
items from Corvette Central.....prices are always lot's lower than the others.
Plus I've gotten OK...service mine you not the best...but just Ok...service...some of the order people have thier fingers where the sun dosen't shine.....if you order online its pretty good you'll get what you ask for...well.........................event ually...

Re: Eckler's or Mid-America? (Black88Vette)
Ive ordered from Zip and The Last Detail and gotten great service. Ive heard a LOT of bad about Ecklers though plus their prices always seem to be the highest. I havent ordered from Mid America yet but have heard good about them. Zip is here in the Forum Mall and The Last Detail is at: http://www.tld-corvette.com
(Have you ever heard of the 2-50 Rule? Every satisfied customer will tell 2 others about it and every dis-satisfied customer will tell 50 people about it. I wont mention any company names but they might pay attention to this a bit more)
I have ordered from both, and I would say MAD.
Ecklers box was beat up and had no literature or nuts & bolts, MAD Had a decent box, a packing slip and nuts, bolts, and washers!
I would go with MAD. Excellent return policy. They had shipped me a wrong part (1 number different that what was ordered). I called and explained what happened. They shipped the correct one that day. When I asked if they wanted the original part returned (small rear suspension part for a c3) they said no, more in shipping than the part was worth! Gave it to a club member who might use it.
I have nothing but good things to say about Ecklers! I have talked several times and purchased parts for my ZR1 as well as my C5. I find they have most items in stock where the other guy live in the world of "BACK ORDER"
Ecklers has at the very least the same price and some really cool guys if you know who to talk to!!!! :chevy
Re: ECKLERS
Ordered TWO front bearing assemblies for my C4 from Ecklers.
One had more play in it than the one I took off.
They wouldn't send me another one until they received the bad "new" one back.
Really held up getting my Vette going. That's not good customer service.
They WOULD not send me another one and issue a pick up for UPS to get their no good one. Suxxx BIG TIME.
Ordered one of the original top wrenches from Ecklers. One of the little rachets with a # 10 Torx on it.
The little direction lever fell off the FIRST time I used it.
Called them and told them about it. They said they would have to have the bad "new" one back before they could do anything about it. That sux.
It wasn't worth my time to send back and wait for another one.
I reckon it's still going out through the woods behind my house...it was the last time I saw it, anyway.
Ecklers customer service is no service.
They WILL NOT try to help if you get something no good from them.
I suspect they make enough bux to not worry about the times their customer is royally forked over.
I don't mean to change the subject but have you thought about alternatives to either of those places? I buy stuff from MAD and Eckler's too but for new genuine Chevy, I go to Brasington GM on-line (http://www.gmotors.com). They sell 15% over dealer cost to anyone. That amounts to about a 40% savings over your local Chevy dealer, I've found by comparison. It's usually cheaper than either of those other places for an equivalent part.
For really good used parts, I use several savage places but the people at Vet2Vet (www.vette2vette.com) have treated me very well.
I'm glad you mentioned that you didn't like your carpet savers!! I was about to order some myself. Why didn't you like them? Did they really interfere with the pedals that bad? I have a 6 speed, so that is very important to me!! :yesnod:
