Chasing the " Service Engine Soon " saga
Tried jump wiring the info center to get a code but no codes on two different tries on different days.
So , order parts, MAF MAP Ox sensors. Changed them one at a time and test ride. MAF, old one was very dirty, new one didn't change much.
MAP and disconnect battery for about 30 mins. Engine didn't like that at all. Spitting and backfiring under light acceleration . Mistake was getting on I 10 and finding the problem boxed in traffic for 10 miles. But begin to clear up and light still on. On back roads was able to accelerate pretty hard to about 85 and the light would shut off under acceleration which it didn't before. But still come on with same rich problem if it was not on. Run way better at low speeds with light on.
Next, change ox sensors. Wow! What did I let my old body in for. Had bought a slit socket and prebent a 7/8 combo wrench so was not much of a problem getting the old sensors out.
But, getting the new one in, WoW! Got wore out trying to get them started in that limited space on a 95 C4 coupe. . Shut it down for a few days to think about it.
This morning, jacked the front way up and on jackstand so I could work from the sides. Finally figured out how they wanted to go back in and finally got er done.
Took the car out for gas 91 octane no ethanol for a 17 gallon fill up and drove around town for about 20 mins and 5 miles. No light, no stumbling, running quite nice really.
Tomorrow a little road trip to make sure it's all good. Parts all ordered from A1 Auto for about 140 dollars so well worth it to me and learning more and more about this car every time I fix something else.
Did horns last week for a cost of about 100 bucks for switches and cheap horns.
