Default Help! Need new opti conversion guys inside

I am upgrading my 94 to the new vented style opti. I have the new wire harness and the plastic connector doesn't match. There's two notches that line up on the new one and only one notch on the old. Is something wrong or do I need to just remove this plastic notch.

Thanks.

there was an article (and also a tech doc) giving a step by step....article was in corvettefever, believe feb,02 issue, on the conversion. Memory thinks you need to swap or redo the harness end...will look for the info, ok, found it and will e-mail to you

GO here for info from tech docs, opti repair

Which end of the harness doesn't work now? The opti end or the rest of the wiring harness end? My 92 kinda has a bastard connector on the wiring harness end, and the opti end is different in later models. I had to get the newer style pigtail and rewire it into my older style connector.

.. on the '92, there is a 3x2 prong connecter on the wireing harness side, and the 1x4 prong connector on the opti side. On the 93+ there is a 1x4 prong connector on both sides, however, on the 93-94, there is a different locking mechanism. If you have a 92, you have to take your old harness-to-opti, and cut off the 3x2 end, then take your new wiring harness-to-opti connector, and cut off the opti end. Now, splice these two together, connecting the same color wires (on mine, 3 of the wires were the same color, and the fourth was yellow to red).

If you have a 93-94, then all you have to do is shave off the little locking mechanism on the non-opti side of the connection, and slide it in. Hope that helps!

Actually I would highly recommend against cutting the wires. I only say so because the pins are actually the same in each connector. It takes a little more time, but you can actually take the wires out of the connector and put them into the old one. That way you don't have any extra splices.

MarkLT1,

That was my plan, to shave off that locking pice of plastic on the harness side. Thanks for your help guys, I love this forum.

I will post pics of my engine in a minute.
