hows it going guys, iv been kinda idle here the last few years as I'm doing my time in the marines, but ill be getting out soon and hope to start up some new projects on my 94 vette. I recently ordered stainess steel brake lines, but I was kinda thinking while I have them off id like to rebuild my calipers since theyre 22 years old now and have almost 150,000 miles on them. I see rebuild kits on rockauto so I think ill rebuild and maybe paint them. my question is, if I have the calipers off for a few days, how do you recommend I stop the fluid from leaking out? I know not to let the master cylinder get empty. any suggestions? thanks!
You can either try to keep the master cylinder from going empty, or bench-bleed it before connecting the lines to it after everything else is done. If you decide to try to keep some fluid in the master, I'd suggest you cut the old steel lines a few inches away from the master, and pinch the stubs shut and fold them over to close their ends. Or cut them clean, and cap them with suitably-sized rubber caps. Either way should work. Then remove the stubs just prior to connecting the new stainless lines to the master.
Let us know how this project goes for you. I have a stainless line kit for my '94, but haven't yet installed it. I'll be curious to hear how they fit for you. Did you buy them from Classic Tube?

I'll bet your just phishing if anyone reads this....
So make up a plug from a bolt or plastic bag.
Or use rubber caps from the hardware store.
Also when you paint the calipers, ANY paint is just fine.
The calipers don't get hot enough to require hi-temp or special paints.
Clean em real nice a hit with a touch of primer and some red krylon.
sorry if you guys thought I meant the hard lines, I was talking about the rubber hoses at the caliper, I bought stainless steel ones to replace them. crimping them sounds like it could work, maybe a couple pairs of vise grips? thanks for the help!
