The AIR system helps to keep your Cats from clogging. If you are still running cats, keep the AIR.. if not, you can ditch it, by just getting rid of all the plumbing, and plugging up the holes in the manifolds with bolts, and making a plate to go over the intake manifold connection.
There are (2) 10mm bolts holding the AIR tube to the back of the intake manifold. You'll need a gasket & blockoff plate there.
There is a bolt on the back of the pass.side head holding the AIR tube bracket to the head I forget what size it is ( 14mm or 9/16") .
The bracket is slotted so all you need to do is get the bolt loose but it's tough to get at. The rest of it comes apart pretty easily.
CentralCoaster: Need an AIR Pump? I will have mine up for grabs as soon as I figure out the new bracketry (know what to do, just gotta get it done and verify it'll work).
It'll go for a resonable price if your intersted, its all cleaned up too...
Email me and let me know
As for the posters issue, the LT1 used an electric AIR Pump I beleive, so all you should have to do is disconnect whatevers there and cap off at the exhaust (then send it to me so I can design a smog legal car again :p:) They make an eliminator bracket for the L98s...

No thanks, it looks like it won't fit on pre-87 cars. I may be interested in Oldace84's though, that would fit. It sounds like mine has bad bearings.
ZRWANNABE,
LT1's have Electic A.I.R. pumps that are down in the nosewell. (behind the foglights) So I don't know what exactly you're trying to get rid of? Having smog stuff on LT1 doesn't really do any harm (performance wise)
Oldace: For now, its paying for smog (~$100 extra). I have a few places I can get it done.
Check with your local speed shops, most will know a guy or two that can "pass" the car.
Eventually I want to put an electric pump in, just so I can somewhat go legal (would still have to swap exhuast out) if I ever needed (hopefully wont live in naziville... errr California  long enough to worry about it though :D
I got rid of it for looks, etc... the current setup is going to be idler pulley in stock area (custom bracket, but same general location), Powersteering pump in stock location/bracket, and alternator in stock area with stock/custom bracket (heim jointed inplace of AIR pump). At some point it will be waterpump and alternator, with a custom bracket and V-Belt setup... nothing quite like electric pumps (Water, PS, AIR)
Let me know in an email if you cant find a shop to Pass you. I may be able to check a few references and see what I can find..
