Default Help determining differential leak.

Hey everyone. Let me start by saying I don't know much about differentials in general. I have been reading through my FSM, but honestly don't know what could be leaking. I've checked the fluid and it's full, so I'm not sure if its grease from something else. It honestly looks more like a grease then oil because its pretty thick. The below picture is on the drivers side. Does the yoke bearing have grease in it that could be leaking? Is there a gasket around the yolk bearing? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Bad axle stub (yoke) seal. Does the stub move in and out? Hopefully not. 90W gear oil is pretty thick and finds it's way around everything.

I don't think it moves. It seemed pretty solid. If it moves does it indicate something else?

It doesn't seem to difficult to replace the axle seal. Since I'm there I'm assuming it would be a good idea to replace the axle shield and axle bearing? Anything else since I'm there? I'm not sure how old the ujoints are, so I guess I should replace them as well.

It's not difficult to replace the seals, but you need to remove the rear to do it. You also need a beefy set of snap ring plyers to get the retaining rings off to remove the axles.

You don't want to (or need to) replace the shield or bearing as long as everything is tight, but as RichS said, you need to pull the rear and a snap right to get the stub out. You need a good pair of 45 degree snap ring pliers, even then it's a bit of a pita. If you're going to do one, do them both. Keep track of the snap rings though as they are side specific.

Wow really, pull the rear? From what I've read so far it didn't seem like I had to go to that extent, but I guess I need to read some more.
