Default Fuel Dilemma

My 86 TPi needs a new fuel pump and likely new injectors. I bought it about a month ago and it still has what appears to be original injectors and I have no reason to believe that the pump has ever been changed. I'm getting code 54's and rough idle and somewhat hard starts. I know call FIC and rock Auto and be done with it. Here's the dilemma. In the next 12 to 18 months I plan to build a new engine. Looking to get about 400 ish to the wheels with a 383. I know it's a challenge but if I fall short there is always boost. So I want to go ahead and buy a pump like a Walbro 255 and injectors big enough to be put into my new engine so that I don't have to buy these parts all over again. Would I be able to get away with that without having to tune the stock engine and PCM?

I'd get the Racetronix pump and hold off if you are going that route. I don't see any way of making 400 at the wheels without running much higher pressure and hitting 100% use.

At stock pressure, you are going to have to use 39.29 pph injectors to make 500 Crank HP at 80% duty cycle. I really wouldn't go to 70 psi at 100% duty cycle. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
