I got my aux fan switch wired thanks to 65Z01 for his help but my question when does both fans come on ? My main fan on the water pump side of radiator comes on normal at 225 on and 210 off. My fan in front of condenser never comes on. I know it's wired to the coolant temp in the block cause i can ground the wire then the fan will come on. Don't know it there's a problem or chasing a ghost. Any help would be appreciated
A few years ago,I bought a kit to connect the aux fan to come on when the main fan came on.It had a wire and a splice joint connector(unsure of name) to connect it to the main fan relay.Worked with no problems. So when the main fan came on,the aux fan did too, helping with cooling down faster.
Also,The aux fan comes on around 240 degrees in case of over heating. If youre not wired into the main fan relay with this mod,it may not come on.The relay is in front of the battery on the wheel splash shield on the drivers side.
For other reference,The aux fan relay is way up front next to the air cleaner box on the drivers side rad. shroud.
Is this what you needed to know?
:)
The main fan comes on at 228 F and off at 210 F. The aux fan is operated by a thermostatic switch in the block between plugs 2 and 4 and it turns on the aux fan at 238 F and this is why you haven't seen it run. It shouldn't be necessary to have both fans on to cool your engine. I installed a manual switch so I can force the main fan on when I am at stoplights etc. The biggest help I found was to install a Stewart water pump when mine needed replacing. The Stewart delivers 41 % more flow at idle and higher speeds. My mechanic left my switch off and just left the engine idle and the coolant temp cycled between 238 to 210, fan on to fan off. In high 90 at a stoplight and my switch on, my coolant goes to 200 F and drops to 195 when I get underway ( I have the factory 195 stat). It also helps to insure a clean radiator as debris collects on it and it cannot be seen. My lazy method is to blast water from a garden hose backwards through the radiator and then blast water around the radiator cap gap to flush the debris out. It made a difference.
