Default need help

Attachment 48020883Just got a 1991 base model c4. Car runs good but had the service light come on after throttling the car a little. Cut the car off and back on the light goes away. Didnt come on any today. So under the hood i did happen to find a missing hose to a black box beside the intake. Im not sure what it is but one hose is coming from the exhaust manifold to the box and then its just missing the other hose and there is a hose that comes out of the top. Would this cause a service light and what exactly is it? Car does have a set of Pypes on it.

That's the smog air pump diverter solenoid. It won't turn the light on. See if your EGR is connected. Actually, the best thing it to just dump the codes. Easy to do with a paper clip. I'm sure the instructions are in 10,000 places on the net.

Look on youtube for how to pull codes with a paper clip.
