Default TPIS header install [part 2]

Worked on it for about 6 hours today...

removed passenger side exhaust manifold
removed starter
roughed-in drivers side header

I would recommend rethreading the headers bolt holes, mine were in need of re-tapping

Here I am in the process of removing the 2 angular braces -see my thread.... TPIS header install[part 1]

Here is the drivers side header roughed in.

The dipstick tube did not come out for me. Here is where it enters the oil pan (long skinny tube covered in grease at the bottom)

I just unhooked the dipstick tube(by bending the hook) from the header bolt in order to remove the OEM exhaust manifold. Whether or not I need to remove it before installing the passenger side header will be determined tomorrow.

I could not remove the passenger side exhaust manifold without removing the starter. did this happen to you guys too?

I'm loading pics now. they'll be up in a sec.

Chuck

I was able to pull both of my stock manifolds up and out the top. That dipstick is a joke, what crock that thing is. I also had to bend my hook and it wouldn't come out. I was able to get the hookers in around it though, so you should be ok.

Why do I see antifreeze on your oilpan?

I had to move my A/C compressor forward and bend the dipstick tube to pull the stock header out the top side.

Anyway, looks like you're making good progress.

BTW, how you like the finish on those TPIS headers?

When I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the electrical connection from the fan switch, I decided to start unscrewing the fan switch- not even thinking that coolant would start pouring out of it  rookie move.

Jim, yes I do like the finish. however it's pretty tough putting these things in without rubbing them up againts things and marking them up. I will try to hand buff that marks out after my install.

Nice shots. Would a thread chaser have worked instead of tapping the screw holes. Enlarging alum threads makes me nervous

Did you have to pull the starter? I thought TPIS claims their headers fit without doing that, or is that more marketing BS?

I didn't have to pull my starter. My install went relatively smooth.

I did drop the starter. I think it makes things much easier. However the dipstick tube does not want to come out and it preety much has to in order for me to install the headers.
