Whining throwout?
Here's the situation, 1994 six speed, when the original clutch gave out at 70K I decided to replace it with a stage two Carolina Clutch steel flywheel/clutch setup, other than being slightly out of balance it was fine but the throwout was still whining from new (as it was on the original clutch/DMF) I had only a few hundred miles on it when the engine decided to play up so had to go in for some work, while in the shop we decided to try refitting the old DMF along with a new stock clutch (throwout No 3..) however the chatter on pickup has made decide to refit the Carolina kit, so my point of all this is, 3 separate throwouts in the space of less than a thousand miles, one old and two new, ALL 3 whined like crazy..and all three stopped whining with the clutch pedal depressed as you would expect, so is there something else in there that would cause the squealing to all 3 bearings rather than just the bearings themselves? the shaft maybe?

Yes it sounds like a bad bearing buzzing but it's probably not. I learned this this hard way. After several email conversations with zfdoc I learned that Transmission alignment is critical on the ZF6. Clean the back of the block surface really good and make sure the bell housing surface is clean and flat. I used a large flat file to dress mine and it fixed the problem but next time I pull it I will take the bell housing to a machine shop and have them make sure both surfaces are flat and parallel. You wouldn't think that such a tiny thing would make that much difference but believe me it does. And now I now have spare throwout bearings and can Pull the transmission blindfolded.
