Trans choice poll
This winter the car will get a 9", coilovers & a 4-link, solid roller, etc. Right now I want to be able to finish out the drag racing season without breaking the bank, these are what I'm considering.
Thanks for your input guys, Dave

I haven't looked into the swap, or anything like that, but thats just what I want to do.
BTW, the guy that rebuilt my 700R4 guarantees it up to 600 hp, I haven't tested it yet though, I'm only making about 300 hp/450+ lbs of torque.
...Lots of pro-built drag 350's fairly reasonable...And TQ's to match...<drool>...
However, this setup is less than ideal for racing. I thought I had found a cheap way to make a lot of power. Well, the power is here, but only at a very specific rpm, its like a Diesel. With the intake manifold cut the way it is, it makes a lot of tq, with only a little bit of hp. The car completely dies around 3,100-3,200 rpms.
I've pretty much given up with trying to turn it into a race car as is. The motor that is in it now is great as a daily driver, very tame unless you get on it. Passing, and off the line are fun, and economy is actually better than stock.
The next two years, she's going to stay mostly the way it is, mechanically speaking. In order to fix this motor to make it raceable, would take a whole lot of work, the cam just doesn't work with the aftermarket heads available. My plan is going to be a 406 CI motor, Canfield heads, pretty crazy cam(not decided yet, but probably around .525/.530 230/234), with a Holley Stealth Ram. The motor thats in the car now will hopefully go into either a circa-1970 Chevy pick-up, or a 1988-1997 Chevy pick-up, just to be a tow vehicle with a little bit of pep.
To sum that up, yes I make a lot of torque, but no, it doesn't make the car fast. Fortunately it hasn't eaten the new 700R4; yet.

I can't see losing a ratio and having to roar down the highway at 3000 rpm, unless you're going for a pure drag car that rides a trailer back and forth.
Correct me if I've a bad misconception of the TH350 - it's a three-speed close ratio, right? Rotten final-drive revs for a road warrior's car.
