Went to start my '93 yesterday and got not much more than clicks from the starter. Battery voltage across the terminals was down to 11 volts I had a tender connected for the last two weeks.
I have a 10A charger and got it on the car but I watched the amps gauge drop very quickly from 8A to about 1.5A But the car started within 10 minutes of the charger being connected. I decided to check the voltage again and I found that voltage at the battery terminals was 14.5v with the engine running. Voltage at the alternator post was 14.7v
The alternator is a CS144 with 140A output. Was this particular alternator (GM p/n 10480138) installed in all '93 coupes? Seems like a lot of output??
I'll be taking the car to my shop to get the battery load tested (8 year old DieHard Gold) to see if the battery is good, but I wonder if the high voltage output may be killing the battery?
