i am tring to get it started so i can take it to the dealer and have them reprogram the new (used ccm
Answer my questions as to 'who from' on eBay!
Post a link to your buy so that it can be determined 'how best' to get there from where you are!
There are maybe 3 potential solutions for you with various degrees of expense/difficulty. A couple maybe very inexpensive - but unlikely. A + would be the car is a '96.
well i bought a used ccm and installed but now i cant get it to relearn the key. i have done it the way it says to relearn but it doesn't do it.it says to put the key in and turn it on and the security light will go off in 10 to 11 minutes but it never goes off
any suggestions
thank you DJA
I believe with a used CCM you will have to get a VAT's tester and see what key code has been burned into that CCM and get new keys made with the correct resistor pellet.
Also the dealer can't reprogram the used CCM, and probably won't care to help you with the older car in their eyes anyway. you will need to get the CCM reman'd , dont know who is doing this now, used to be a guy in Georgia but think he stopped. Kurt at White racing product was doing it last as far as I know. You will need a Tech 1 with a OBD1 to OBD2 adapter as well and you can program the CCM with the correct mileage and it will program the key pellet on it on (if you follow the service manuals directions-) there is a separate CCM GM service manual for additional CCM programming with information that is not in main manual....its much harder to find . They did this for protection of mileage tampering. PM me if needed. Probably find someone on the forum near you that may have the GM tools you need. if you don't have them, it would be an expensive to but all this. BTW it could be as simple as the key pellet going bad, if you have an extra key , try that first.

Thank you for your helpful information, I have been working on it for about 3 months off and on, very flustered lol
I have now ordered a component to delete all the vats system and should having on Wed, hopefully this will do it
Get a variable potentiometer from Radio Shack or elsewhere that will provide a range of resistance values the CCM is looking for. Here is a chart that shows the 15 possible resistance values and thus the total range;
Build a harness for it and plug it in to your "VATS" harness at the base of your column. See pic:
Set the POT at the first resistance value, try to start it. If it won't start, go to the next value, try again. And so on. You have to wait 3 minutes between attempts, so keep that in mind.
When you hit the resistance value that starts the car, go to a GM dealer and have them cut you new keys with that resistance value "code" (the 1-14 number on the chart) for the blank key.

I don't believe you can accomplish what's needed with just a by-pass unless it's an interrogator of sorts. You never mentioned who it came from on eBay - there's potential solutions but if you'd rather struggle then have at it.

You can do all values with a 10K POT I believe except #15 - you don't need to do #1 - I've a friend that when he borrowed my Interrogator always started in the middle 8 then 9,7,10,6,11,5,12,4,13,3,14,2 and finally 15. He was a pretty good gambler also. I never did it that way and the last I did was a #14 that I read from a key and used the Interrogator to show the shop what they needed to do to make the car run. I would have been a long damn while doing it like my friend.

I've never used a POT .....
I did it. Got lucky and hit the "jack pot" on the second try.
