Default camshaft selection help

Hey Guys,

I know that a lot of people out there have different camshaft setups and I just have a few questions about it.

I am looking at upgrading to a new camshaft (LT4 hot cam kit is what I am currently going towards, needs to pass emissions), 1.6 rr's, timing chain set, valve springs, retainers, and lifters and possible later an LT4 intake manifold and LT4 heads.

What is a good setup for this (what setups worked for you guys) if I use the stock LT1 heads and intake manifold? I am looking for the best performance. What is the maximum lift I can achieve on the stock LT1 heads I have? I heard roller lifters are the best to get, can I have roller lifters on a hydraulic camshaft? Any other great camshafts (or kits) out there? Where can I find them?

Thanks for your help in advance. :chevy

You already have hydraulic roller lifters in your car.

I actually knew that...the point was that while I was in there I was going to replace them (In case of wear), unless I could somehow upgrade them...

Thanks.

Unless your car is has really high milage, there is no need to replace the lifters. Also, the LT4 hot cam kit is a resonably price overall great performing camshaft kit.

Hey check out this section of my website
http://www.wku.edu/~nathan.plemons/h..._corvette.html

This should tell you everything about the progression my Hot Cam project. With LT4 heads and intake you can expect to make a little more power for every stage of modifications.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

The hotcam works best with 1.6 roller rockers. Make sure you get the rest
of the necessities to go with it. Contact lcvette for a detailed list and some useful tips. You can reach him at 910-262-5119 or email lcvette1@aol.com

best of luck

the Hotcam will be the best for the money, no real need to consider others, unless youre shooting for over 400rwhp (and then you wont pass emissions)

id just have the current heads/intake ported to go with the cam and 1.6rr

Thanks for all the help guys.

Oh and another question: After I get my LT4 hot cam kit in and the car reprogrammed, what is the rev limit set at? Can I go to higher RPMs than the stock 5850 rev limiter?

Thanks.

Just to reiterate, I left a message with LCVETTE, I will check my existing lifters for wear and I will get heads and intake ported rather than a LT4 intake and heads.

But just to reassure myself that I am current in this thought, I can use the LT4 hotcam with my stock heads and intake, correct?

THanks.

Yes you can use the Hot Cam kit and not have to change anything else about your motor.

To give you some idea of what you will be looking at. Stock I made 270 rwhp. After a hot cam kit (parts purchased seperately, but all the same stuff) and an electric water pump with Ed Wright tuning I made 313.3 rwhp. That's on full stock exhaust, fully emissions legal.

After I ditched emissions and went with long tube headers I made 336 rwhp. Now with CNC'd LT1 heads and a polished, gasket matched intake I make 365 rwhp.

BTW, I spin my motor to 6300 RPM's. Some will say that's way too low, others will say that's pushing it for the stock bottom end.

I took a look at your website and I must say that I was very impressed. That is a great looking corvette you have. 43 rwhp from the kit is great news for me. That is spectacular for a kit for $475 dollars.

Thanks for all you help, I hope you don't mind, but I bookmarked your site in order to later, down the road, compare your setups and dynos to what I plan to do.

I noticed you were looking at getting a vortech supercharger...why not the intercooled procharger?

I too wish to have forced induction some day.

Thanks,

Not a problem, bookmark away.

My list of future mods tends to change frequently. I know a few people who run vortech superchargers and I have been very impressed with the quaility. They also make a very nice kit for the LT1 vette. I'm sure there are other options, but any option is many years in the future. I've done all the "cheap" performance mods now, anything else is gonna take some serious cash.

I understand what you mean. After looking at performance packages for the LT1 corvette I found out "cheap" is a relative word. I could easily drop $20K (if I had it laying around) on the vette and not bat an eye. Of course the wife would kill me.

Have you noticed that supercharger kits for camaros, FB, TA and mustangs are a lot less than for vettes? Do they just assume since we own vettes we are rich?

Oh well.

Thanks again for your help.

Well I know that in the case of the Vortech, the Corvette kit is much nicer than the f-body kits. The vette is a very nice, highly polished, very complete system. It's show quality while the others are not.
