I was pokin around in my service manual last night (1989), and noticed that a 17x9.5 front - 17x11 rear combination is listed as an option under the RPO code listing section.
Anyone know what's up with this? ZR-1's didn't exist yet, and neither did the wider body of said ZR-1. Any parts guys around that can see if they are actually listed in the GM parts system?
ZR-1's were going to come out in 1989 but GM decided to wait until 1990. If the ZR-1 had come out it would have had the larger body to cover the 11 inch wheel.
I have put 1995 ZR-1 wheels on my 1992 LT-1 and the rears did stick out almost an inch. So I installed the Grand Sport coupe wheel flares and the back looks great. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I have got a lot of complements.
The 1996 Grand Sport (coupes only) had 11 inch rear wheels with the standard C-4 body. That is the reason for the flares.
1989 style wheels in the ZR1 size (11") do exist. From time to time you see a set for sale. Now that I've finally gotten my '90 ZR1 I'm on the lookout for a set.
