Citing the GM service manual, code 42 can mean:
1. Open ignition coil module ground circuit.
2. Faulty ignition coil module connection, or faulty ignition coil module.
3. Faulty ECM connection, or faulty ECM.
4. Grounded IC circuit between ECM and ignition coil module.
5. Faulty circuit from coil to ignition coil module circuit....that did not light during test.
(OK, Nathon Plemons, that should be enough info to keep you busy for an hour or so.)
