I began installing a replacement left rear parking brake cable on my 1986 convertible. I removed the old frozen cable but when I attempted to install the new replacement cable I ran into a problem. The replacement cable is too long from the caliper mounting bracket to the connection point at the wheel. I compared the two cables the replacement is about three inches too long between these two points.
I called the vender and verified that I had the correct part according to their part number on the packaging. Then I emailed them a picture of the two cables next to each other. I am now waiting for a response.
Where do I get the correct cable? I am sure others out there have replaced this cable since with age they seize up. I don't want to keep ordering cables from other venders just to find out they are all sourcing from the same supplier and will not work. Suggestions please.
take a picture and show them in an email with attachments. can you let us know who it is and if they take care of you>?
Yes as I said in my post I took a picture of the original next to the replacement from them and sent it to them via email. I also spoke to them two times. I was promised that they would research it and call me back to let me know. The vender is Corvette America. They haven't called me back for over a week. I returned the part to them for credit after waiting a week. Then I ordered the part from Rock Auto, I paid half the price, received the part in half the time and it is a exact match.
thank you very much, the Internet is a powerful tool. In the old days the Internet was just a place for ranting about negative experiences with retailers, unfortunately that's what you have here but that's OK and again with the desert. The Internet has become, now, a place where you can also share wonderful experiences with Gary good retailers as you have also done was rock auto.
it never stops amazing me how some retailers just don't understand the power of the Internet yet. I'll never buy from corvette America if I don't have to after reading this. You have to treat the customer much better than this. it is not enough to have a return policy, they in effect wasted your time and lots of it.
