Default AC "red light, green light" on a 91

I have a question on the intermittent nature of my AC (yes, I know it is mid November, but I live in Texas) operations on my 91 ZR1.

I get the flashing light on my panel buttons and I run the diagnostic and it says 09 or low Freon. I've had it checked and I'm good.

I go and pull the negative off the battery and reset the system per FSM, put it on recirculate and I get full on AC. This will work for a while as per specs.

But on a regular enough basis the AC system starts flashing again and does not blow cold.

Now, I have been working on the car and my doors stay open for extended (couple of hours) at a time.

Is there something else I need to check or does leaving the door open jack up the system. I would not think so, but I'm coming up with no
other reason?

In a few, I'll go back out, reset the system and have AC again?

What am I overlooking?
